Please attend one or - better yet - attend all of the Open Houses to support all Seattle's communities. These do not include a public meeting or comment period, but you are able to talk to City Staff. Please give priority to those attending from their own districts. SCALE volunteers will be available at a table outside in the hallway to answer questions about our appeal. Everyone can also make comments online

- Open Houses are All Hands on Deck across the City, no matter what your district is! However, we want to step back and allow District 4 residents priority access to the maps and the city representatives. Coalition members will staff an information table outside in the hallway and make ourselves available for questions.
- Send a Call to Action (see below) to your group's list ASAP (ideally 1 week prior)!
- Help SCALE at events please use this Volunteer Sign Up Form
- Our “toolbox” is a set of handouts, stickers and other things to use at meetings. Everything will be provided.
SCALE's Goals for City MHA Open Houses
- Educate people prior to Open House about SCALE so they can be prepared to give informed comments
- Educate people about the unfair MHA Environmental Impact Statement
- Recruit support for SCALE efforts, either financial, mailing list or people power
- Show visible SCALE presence
In order to accomplish this, we will:
- Communicate via all member groups lists to issue a Call to aAction to attend these events (about 3 per month) (Member groups agreed to this.)
- Wear SCALE sticker "Growth is a balancing act!”
- Distribute informational material
- Invite participants to sign our mailing list
Talking Points and Tips for City Open Houses
- Issues to raise and how to express them:
- What does this legislation do to neighborhood plans? (Overrides them)
- What is the City’s plan for 3-bedroom family-sized housing?
- Aren’t they displacing more affordable housing than they are creating?
- Why are vulnerable communities of color being upzoned when other communities welcome growth?
- Isn’t parking as a livability issue being ignored?
- Is increasing the supply of delux rental housing actually increasing middle-class and low-income housing? If so, by how much?
- How does dividing single-family lots into Residential Small Lots create more rental housing?
- What winning our appeal could mean to neighborhood/issues
- The MHA Environmental Impact Statement ignores or underestimates most livability issues. It would be done over, delaying upzones of 27 urban villages and other areas by about a year.
- Impacts on housing, transit, tree canopy, parking, parks, schools, etc. would be acknowledged and mitigated
- Neighborhood planning could be restored
- The most vulnerable neighborhoods could avoid displacement.
Handouts (provided)
- FAQ on the appeal of the MHA Environmental Impact Statement
- Our Neighborhoods One-sheet
- SCALE stickers
