Oolaa's story: As a senior needing 'affordable' senior housing I learned the wait list can be as short as 18 months or up to 5 yrs. I would not want to live in many of the places available, however. Being next to the freeway or where toxic cleaning agents are used in common areas is not my idea of livable or healthy. I'm not aware of any group dealing with the senior issue; yet not all of us can afford condos or even SHAG.
My days are numbered. The homeowner where I rent continues to threaten to raise the rent to market value which makes sense to a home owner but not a renter unless you have a high end tech job. I will be forced to move from Western Washington where I've lived since 1971. Pat's story: Pat (pictured on the left) lives in Ballard and that's his small quaint house in the right rear of the photo. Pat told us that the building next to house was 1/3 constructed at the time the city posted the notice of construction. He has endured months of construction noise, and potentially hazardous chemical exposure, due to out of scale construction adjacent to his home.
Pat and his wife are retired and simply want to live a quiet comfortable retirement but their life has been turned upside down by the dark shadow of poorly regulated growth. |
